Meditation in Turbulent Times
Our world is fast, complex, and shaped by constant challenges. Each of us experiences this time in our own way, yet many of us feel lonely, exhausted, restless, or overwhelmed. This is not due to individual weaknesses but reflects the enormous structural, cultural, and global challenges of our time.
The influence on political, economic, or social processes is limited for most of us. However, on a personal level – physically, emotionally, and mentally – we have the opportunity to notice what is happening to us, what we need, and what we can do. This ability is called mindfulness. It is available to all of us at any time, but we are simply not very practiced at using it for ourselves.
So why is it so difficult for us in these times?
The Moment is Good Enough
Good Enough is an attitude of conscious acceptance. It is an invitation to recognize the complexity of our life while embracing the simplicity of the present moment - without judgement, the need to improve, or the urge to optimize.
This mindset is about opening to the present as it is for a few moments- allowing what is already there and realizing that nothing needs to change.
Taking a pause and being okay with what is happening in the moment can feel like a radical act. In a world filled with urgency, constant demands, and expectations, Good Enough offers an antidote to the prevailing default mode of our time.
It’s about taking small, intentional breaks—moments where the body and mind can simply rest. The narratives we tell ourselves quiet and slow down, creating space for moments of genuine restoration.
In meditation—as in daily life—conscious and unconscious moments will always alternate. Yet, it is in those brief instances of acceptance and presence that we can transform how we relate to ourselves and others, and positively influence the actions we take next.
My Inspiration
The pace and distraction of modern life will likely continue accelerating and so will the demands on our time, energy and attention. Moments of stillness and awareness will always be limited, but perhaps that’s what makes them so valuable.
What if these moments, no matter how brief, were already enough—Good Enough? A brief moment of clarity, connection, or calm amidst uncertainty and change. Sometimes, that’s all it takes to reset, regain focus, and find a sense of direction—without needing to solve, fix, or improve anything.
What happens when we allow everything to simply be for a little while—without resistance, without over-efforting?
I believe that the ability to pause, even for just a moment, will become one of the most valuable skills in our fast-moving world. These small moments of presence and letting go can make a profound difference—bringing greater resilience, clarity, and joy into our lives.
“When a complex system is far from equilibrium, small islands of coherence in a sea of chaos have the capacity to shift the entire system to a higher order.
”
Meditation can create such islands.
These are moments of pause and regeneration that help us navigate the everyday chaos and regain clarity and confidence.
